Two New York police officers were wounded in a chaotic hotel lobby gun battle last month with a fatal shooting suspect, who was killed in the exchange.
The incident happened just before 12:30 a.m. June 13 when two Woodbridge police officers and an NYPD detective responded to a hotel in search of Karl Gregory, a suspect in a fatal New York City shooting, nj.com reports. The officers were interviewing an individual in the lobby when Gregory came down in the elevator, carrying two bags.
Once out of the elevator, Gregory reached into his backpack, and a shootout erupted. The suspect, an NYPD detective and one of the Woodbridge officers were all struck by gunfire.
Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded officers were rushed to the hospital, where they were treated and eventually released.
The shooting is under investigation.
